SERMON – Second Sunday After Christmas – Year C

SERMON – Second Sunday After Christmas – Year C

This week we continue with the ‘Incarnation’ of God coming in the flesh to dwell among us. This is God’s revelation to us in Jesus—love and grace!

Restoration and Joy: In Jeremiah God promises restoration for God’s exiled people, and offers a promise of grace and love even to those who would have been considered unclean or unacceptable to God in the past.

In the Psalm, God’s people are called to celebrate what God has done for God’s chosen ones. In the two apocryphal readings from Sirach and the Wisdom of Solomon Wisdom is seen to have chosen Israel as her home and to have protected Israel from oppression.

Spiritual Blessings in Christ Jesus: In Ephesians the wonderful blessing of salvation is proclaimed, with a specific reference to how we have been made God’s children who have been shown God’s plan and who have received the Spirit to empower us to participate in the plan.

Finally, in John, the Word Made Flesh: Jesus, the Word, became flesh and dwelt among us, revealing God’s glory. Remember that Jesus, the Word made flesh, is with you always. Let His presence guide your actions and decisions. While many did not recognise or accept Him, those who did were given the right to become children of God. Just as Jesus is the light, strive to be a light in your community, showing love, truth, and grace in your interactions. Jesus embodies grace and truth, providing a full revelation of God, surpassing the law given through Moses. Balance grace and truth in your life, being honest and transparent while also being compassionate and forgiving.

By keeping Christ in our hearts this new year, 2025, and allowing His light to lead us, we can experience restoration, embrace our spiritual blessings, and reveal God’s grace and truth in our daily lives.
